Some stuff I need to look at further:

Neuroskeptic: Can Science Work Without Trust? Personally, I'd rather that the trust within science can continue, but we know of those who think it supremely important to end all that. So we're going to need a backup plan.

Ta-Nehisi Coates gives us "Reparations for Ferguson". In which we see once more that the past isn't even past yet. I see more evidence for the arguments of some - including David Brin - that the First American Civil War still isn't over yet, despite the events of 1865.

Now here's one I wasn't expecting to see, from Jonathan Kay, on the subject of the stresses on the lives of retail and hospitality workers. I've known they exist for some time, but wasn't expecting this reaction from Mr. Kay.

More later...

Coates and Brin have laid out the blueprint underlying what I'll call "stratification". Spot on, both.

Two sons, two different employers who exemplified what Kay speaks of (one food service, one retail). Both left to different jobs with employers who understand the concept of "enlightened self interest".

Per Brin and Coates - who perhaps ought to be comparing sociological notes at some point - there's another thing that [livejournal.com profile] kadymae pointed out to me about a year or so ago that fits the theory, if not all the facts, this one written by Sara Robinson (http://www.alternet.org/story/156071/conservative_southern_values_revived%3A_how_a_brutal_strain_of_american_aristocrats_have_come_to_rule_america).

I may be playing my own form of conspiracy-theory games here...?

Games involving the same pieces with a discrete set of outcomes? Played across boards that map so easily onto each other? By players from multiple strata?

I'd keep my roll of tin foil with reach just in case...

Rhetoric driven from a polarized view accompanying an agenda can fan flames from dully-glowing embers, sparking fuel that has either been primed with accellerants or dessicated by environment.

Said rhetoric can and will be considered dangerous by some. ...especially those who are not husbanding the fuel sources as they might.

Short, circumlocutory, and riding my old-firehouse metaphor. ...but history repeats, patterns repeat, episodes repeat (Manka steps out today and I flash back to Kent State). Raw analysis of events can illuminate the scene before the darkness of disinformation is draped over the facts, shattered and broken as they are.

I read Jonathan Kay occasionally, because he sometimes surprises me. He doesn't seem to be as doctrinaire as some National Post writers.

Based on his appearances on Q's media panel, I'd have to agree with your assessment of the man. He does have his helpful moments, and this is going to be another of those.
