Some of you might be interested in this. James Daily and Ryan Davidson are co-authoring a weblog on the depiction of legal issues in pop culture in general, science fiction and fantasy in particular. Today, their eyes focused on one of Canada's better-known recent TV exports in that field, Orphan Black.

No, no, no. Wrong, wrong, wrongity wrong. The clones cannot be patented.

I'd been thinking of writing something to that effect, that I'm liking the show quite a lot, despite having to hold my brain's nose about that central premise. Of course, there wouldn't be much a show if they just found a lawyer and got themselves declared human — or else, it would be a very different show.

But nevertheless, if you can get past that it's a pretty good show, in'it?
