Why I'm Writing Paper Letters Again

It seems counter-intuitive, 'tis true.

But even without knowing me, Bruce Ward of the Ottawa Citizen goes to some useful length to explain some of my motives, however indirectly. I have resented doing without "to the door" delivery in my neighbourhood this past quarter-century. I should have been making my preference for such service clear far sooner and more often. That mistake will be addressed - ahem - in due course.

I can't go back to writing paper letters 'cause I never did. I think I could count all the paper letters I've sent on the fingers of both hands, ignoring things like required submissions to colleges, bills, etc.

I'm old enough to still be able to mentally resume the habit. Although the new technologies available to us all mean that I can make my letters more visually interesting and easier to read for those with minor visual impairments. So I figure to make full use of that.

It's probably not just age. I don't know how old you are, but I'm more than old enough to have grown up before E-mail became commonly accessible (I'm 51). I just never wrote letters.
