A solution to the DVD format fights?

I found this article on a new patent for DVD tech on BBC's Web News Service.

I hope this patent's inventors make out like bandits. It'll save a lot off people having to throw out a lot of existing machines if this becomes the new standard for DVDs. And if anyone's got a vested interest in seeing it fail?

Back right off, okay? We -- the customer base/general public -- do NOT need the grief.

Oh, that's encouraging. We recently bought a high definition television and decided to hold off on buying the DVD player for a few years until we saw what format won out. Thanks for sharing that:)
