[livejournal.com profile] ms_danson just alerted me this morning to something very odd and possibly Very Alarming on [livejournal.com profile] siderea's LJ: apparently there's some sort of access bug.

Details here.

I haven't yet encountered it myself, but if true, this couple be a Major Problem for many of us LJ users. Hoping the management has gotten hopping re: fixing it!

I guess I missed out on the fun, I should log in more often :/

Still I suppose it's an object lesson that online privacy at best is a facade and at worst is a sham.

I guarantee that little bug made somebody a bit of money.

Almost a certainty, I suppose.

The ones who believe in widening the Income Gap have to do something to be worthy of their vision of Heaven, don't they.

If you're not paying for a service, you're not the customer, you're the product.

This is not in and of itself an evil paradigm, but I don't think people would be comfortable realizing the depth to which their lives have been commoditized, or the sometimes arbitrary nature of the safeguards involved.

And sometimes, even when you're paying for the service, you're still treated as if you're the product. Which is an annoying act of conflation on someone's part, whether deliberate or by accident.
