Call this the latest in a series of reminders of reasons for the above statement.

Our neighbours, near and far, must not be allowed to forget.
We, ourselves, must not forget.

Because it might be any one of us tomorrow.

For the people of Toronto, this is an issue that is relevant NOW.

I wish them luck in trying to stop the Philistines at City Hall. [Can we say that they cannot af-Ford Rob or Doug? :-)]

Had a look at it a few moments ago. Fair concerns, all, and I suspect some of them are already being worked on.

I suspect that the libraries are about to prove bullet-proof (or at least Ford-proofed?) in Toronto for the next couple of years. They know full well that the world is watching what they do next, and the library defence forces are already in full muster, thanks be.

As to whoever comes after the Brothers Ford...well, that's another question. If the push to get Margaret Atwood - or one of her preferred allies - to run for the mayor's chair gets sufficient traction, they may be okay.

Something to keep an eye on, anyway.

As for Ottawa, I'm beginning to think it's time for OPL's users, staff and so forth to get their own LJ community, as part of an overall strategy of keeping an eye on what happens hereabouts.

Et pour la biblioteque publique du Gatineau...?

Amen. I love my Kindle, but libraries and print books *must* continue to exist. Technology is great, but let's not trash the past because we've got it.
