As someone who wears the uniform of the (now) Royal Canadian Air Force, I applaud this move. It has less to do with affirming ties to the monarchy than it does about allowing the RCAF and the RCN to reclaim the disconnect in their heritage and history. The Canadian Army never lost theirs. Individual units were mostly able to retain their 'Royal' designation, rank structure, traditions etc.
