On Comics, Persuasion and Age

dewlineOver the last couple of decades, there's been some ongoing concern over the state of sales within the comics industry. Lots of different theories have been tossed around, argued over, debated, and so on. I've done my fair share of participation in these arguments and it's more than likely that I'll keep on doing that for a good while yet.
Every so often, though, something comes over the transom from somewhere else that gets my attention because it seems accidentally related...or perhaps not so accidentally.
Remember The Age of Persuasion? Created by Terry O'Reilly and Mike Tennant of Pirate Toronto for CBC Radio One, that radio show deals with the history, technology, techniques, mindsets and (occasionally) madness of marketing and advertising.
This week's instalment deals with (perceptions about) age and the art of persuasion. And I wonder if Terry hasn't hit upon a possible contributing factor to the state of the comics business today with this episode.
