He's an admitted Trek fan himself. This photo was taken at a convention at Toronto City Hall in 1991 by one Scott Rogers. It got a boost of fame care of the Toronto Star last year, and someone on my LJ friendlist pointed that article out to me a few days ago...

I've read reports that Olivia Chow also has/had such a costume and wore it at conventions once upon a time.

That's cool. I'm not a fan of the TNG first-season costume, but he's got the figure for it. Here's hoping he gets to form a government soon so that he and the POTUS can get together and geek out.

Well, he had it for that particular uniform 15 years ago. Nowadays, I expect he'd prefer the modern iteration with the jacket, sweater and pants we saw in those last 2-3 movies and on DS9. More physically convenient. Especially after the hip surgery and anti-cancer therapies he endured in the months leading up to the election.

That aside, an Obama-Layton Trek-themed confab would be a fun thing indeed to watch.
