Russia, Libya and a Challenged Geo-Political Imagination

rfmcdpei just pointed out something that suggests I was in error about Russia's stance re: the UN Security Council Resolution re: the no-fly zone in Libya:

No small attention-getter to see those two figures in Russian politics in particular have an open dispute over this of all things. The temptation to speculate over possible consequences is strong, although I admit to a lack of information that might help to shape those imaginings in a useful, constructive way.

I agree with the poster in "siberianlight": Putin should have realized what a "no-fly" zone over Libya would entail. Claiming that he had not done so is simply disingenuous. [However, Putin's comments may also have appealed to domestic feelings, which are opposed to the whole notion of external impositions of this kind. I wouldn't be surprised if Russia followed the USA and refused to let the International Criminal Court have jurisdiction over Russians and Russian crimes, for example.]
