This item at CBC News got me thinking: how much signage on the roads and streets is too much?

Opinions, anyone?

Boston has too few.

I think it's hard to put a solid number per area on it. Enough that all needed signs are there. Not so many that they can't be read when driving by.

Too few how?

(Never been to Boston, so I can't really judge.)

Thanks for this. An entertaining tale on the subject, and it's given me some ideas for my Spacing Ottawa project. Particularly this comment (http://ms-danson.livejournal.com/594159.html?thread=2657263#t2657263).

A perfect example of too much signeage can be found in many spots in Toronto. They have so many parking restrictions on so many different poles that they can get you for just about anything they want if you're not careful.

We parked outside my brother's place a while back, and, from what we could see on the adjacent sign, the time and the location was OK. However, we failed to notice the 'No Standing' sign on the next post over, so we were stuck with a $60 ticket.

There are spots in downtown TO that would count in my mind as...well, busy enough to almost qualify as an Okudagram.
