A perfect example of too much signeage can be found in many spots in Toronto. They have so many parking restrictions on so many different poles that they can get you for just about anything they want if you're not careful.
We parked outside my brother's place a while back, and, from what we could see on the adjacent sign, the time and the location was OK. However, we failed to notice the 'No Standing' sign on the next post over, so we were stuck with a $60 ticket.
