Names and Troubles and Stuff
Apr. 21st, 2010 09:59 pmThis may be a mistake. Some of my friends have told me before that one of the rules of marketing is "never admit a flaw or a mistake". Me, I'm thinking that I'll get into trouble whether I do so or not. So. Might as well be damned as an occasionally too-honest man.
One thing I've had a problem with for a long time has been keeping names matched to faces. I'll pick up on a face for years in some cases before learning to match a name to it. It troubles me again, partly because it's happening again at the day-job with one or two people, and I happened to listen to Definitely Not the Opera on the radio yesterday. This week's theme was Names. How friendships, partnerships, and more - or less - have begun or ended over the memory of a name.
It could be that, due to a civil service childhood wherein I lived where Dad's bosses of the day decided we'd live as a family, I just gave up on trying on some level and this is the consequence of the subconsciousness refusing to catch up with reality that's seen me living in the same city for 25 years now.
Or maybe I'm just making excuses again for stupidity.
Not sure yet.
On other topics: Justin Beach argues for William Shatner to be Canada's next Governor-General. I can't see it being done, for precisely the reasons Justin outlines, but who knows?
Had a look at Iron Manual # 3 at the store today. I'll likely end up buying this one too, seeing as I'm a sucker for Marvel Handbook/Who's Who--style books in any case. But if there's to be an # 4 of that series, I want new stuff by Eliot Brown. Please, Marvel Editorial? It's what I bought # 1 for in the first place all those years ago.
