Checkmate: Royal Update Question 2010
Feb. 4th, 2010 09:35 pmOkay...I'm a sucker for quasi-military defence/intelligence services in comic books. Especially the ones allied with the UN. You knew that from my chatter on SHIELD - which may be coming back at Marvel sooner than I thought - already, as well as my following Checkmate in both of its published-so-far incarnations. Really enjoyed it when
ruckawriter was handling it with his artistic partners as well as Eric "MercuryEric" Trautmann.
So, something happened in Wonder Woman got my attention recently.
Etta Candy came out and admitted to being recruited as a Pawn by no less than Alan Scott and Michael Holt in Wonder Woman v.3 # 40. And apparently, she's a Whiteside Knight now after "three years" per her ID card.
(Those were Etta's words, not confirmed as DCU-wide editorial policy yet.)
So...given that Val Vostok's been KIA in the wake of Checkmate's attempt to retake Blüdhaven from Darkseid's forces...that left an opening in the Royals, sure. Which implies that a change-up in White Queen's Knight and Bishop postings could have also happened. Those posts were held by Rocket Red Brigadier Maks Chazov of Russia and Zviad "Bad Samaritan" Baazovi of Russia and Sakartvelo(AKA "Eurasian Georgia") when the most recent Checkmate series was wrapped up.
So...who got promoted and who either quit or got purged from the Checkmate Royals?
And when do we get to read the story of how it happened?
