Not sure if it's specifically H1N1 or one of the more garden-variety (!) strains, but I just saw a doctor this morning and he seemed fairly certain. It would have been nice if it had waited until the vaccines for the expected troublemaker strains were available, but we still live in a world where we cannot have everything we want when we want it.

I've been warned to expect a "crappy week". Job search, skills training, and the rest of it is just going to have to wait that long.

At least I may be able to keep food down again. Maybe I'll be able to sleep lying down in my own bed again?

Good luck, Dwight!

There's a good deal of variation this season. Fortunately I didn't end up with one that gave a racking cough. It was bizarre how clear and dry (irritation from which did give me some brief bouts of coughing) my lungs stayed, while my clogged head seemed to bind up like resin.

Body aches - a day or two in it felt as if I'd been punched in the kidneys - no outright nausea, but such a feeling of gastric unsteadiness that I had to force myself to drink and, eventually, to eat a little something.

"Crappy week" indeed. I hope you have plenty to read and enough over-the-counter meds to combat the worst of the symptoms.

Mike, good to hear from you! I caught a couple of your recent comments on Fox News' "non-confession" and the whole health-care thing from the Miraclo Miles feed, and hoping to comment later.

I think over the last couple of days...I've been dealing with the whole nine yards. Racking coughs turning to nausea, alternating sweats and chills, and so on. It's been a mess.

Plenty to read, never fear, and enough meds to see me through.

Man, I'm sorry! I have a cold here, and even we health care workers don't have the H1N1 vaccine yet here in the US. My luck, I'll get that strain of flu before the vaccine is available. The one thing I will suggest to you, which is what the medical community here is now advising...if you feel really sick, go to the hospital. Most of the people here who have died of H1N1 have died of heart failure, apparently brought on by the flu. One of them was in their 20's, so age is not a factor.

I've had the regular flu shot thus far, and am patiently waiting for the H1N1 vaccine.

Hang in there, and keep us posted.

You've already had the shot for the other "expected suspects"?

huh.

My surprise is finding out the US didn't have their "regular expected suspects" targeting program delayed by having H1N1 locked in as a federal "crash" priority. Which, if memory serves, is what's happened up here.

No, we had the regular flu shots out and running earlier than expected, say mid September. Of course, my stupid hospital decided to immunize everyone 2 weeks after every doctor's office and pharmacy in town was offering flu shots.

If it's any consolation, I've taken the flu shot for years without any symptoms and I felt like crap after getting the shot this year. This just tells me that the flu this year has to be really awful.

Sorry to hear you're down with the nasty bug, mate, but chin up. It's partially your body's way of telling you to get a bit of rest and all.

Remember to drink lots of liquids, but none of them alcoholic. :)

The family tree is wide enough and deep enough that I can delegate the alcoholic liquids. :-)

Hey, there!

Just got back in this morning after swearing off the Net for the day yesterday for that Quest for Good Health. Last night was about as rough as it's ever been so far, but just this moment in the morning seems to have become a good patch.

The trick is going to be to not push the luck too hard too fast.
