Much though I was -- and am -- tired of the neo-con feds, I was equally disgusted by the Opposition Parties' reaction last year to this same threat. The sheer amount of self-centered-ness demonstrated by all three of them was downright vulgar and deplorable.
I may be hoping for a non-confidence vote late next month, but I am feeling downright cynical about the overall political process of late. Unless the Greens can score an upset or two, there will be little Real Change.
[Broad hint: if you think the NDP can do something environmentally sensible, consider what the effect of such an action would be on organizations like the CAW, many of whose members stand to lose their jobs if the government was environmentally honest. Unless the NDP wants to fall on its own sword, it cannot do anything that would offend the large unions; too much of its support comes from them. Nor is most modern manufacturing friendly to the environment at all; making it so would be too expensive in time, money *and* jobs.]
