Does anyone know how long this tree's been there?

Seeing it in its present state was what drew my attention to the site, believe it or not. I rarely see such an oddly trimmed tree as this in my travels around this town, or any other in recent memory.

Thanks much.

On a related note, "open mike" posts ought to be happening here more often...

I'm surprised that it's lasted as long as it has, being right next to a power line. When I lived in Memphis and owned a house, we wondered if some of our trees would survive the power company trimmers; even if you trimmed your own trees away from the power lines regularly, the company trimmers would come through (sweeping from west to east) and overtrim. The things that they'd do to trees were hideous.

I can just imagine: "Overtrim, or your insurance coverage is gone. Forever."
