I'll bet that it's happening in many other places as well as in Australia. It's meddling of an evil sort and the rest of us shouldn't (be told to) tolerate it.

Agree with the anger, and the philosophical statements. However, they took the shilling, they have to put up with what comes with it.

Climate researchers being denied US gov/mil data is worse than them being denied funding but either is disastrous for humanity.

Now would be a good time for China to decide they want to be seen internationally as white hats (a policy already working well for them in Africa).

When they become a multi-party liberal democracy is when they can be seen as "white hats". Xi, Putin, Trump...all part of the same Problem.

I agree, but you'll understand that a lot of people in Africa are unimpressed with the system of governance that inflicted imperialism / colonisation / CIA-backed coups on them and prefer to receive infrastructure that survives extreme weather events.
