Helping out my hometown convention...
Feb. 6th, 2011 08:53 am...for just a minute.
Some of you may have seen the latest from San Diego via Newsarama. Things have been going this direction thereabouts for a couple of years now, if memory is working properly. So it seems a good idea to have a roster of alternative options for fan gatherings of this sort, if not at the same scale across the continent.
One of these got revived last year, in a bit of a rush, called CAN-CON. Officially, the sub-title is "the Conference on Canadian Content in Speculative Arts and Literature", but I still like to think of it as a convention. An event where, for a weekend, fans and professionals in the field can get together to have some shared fun and learn stuff from each other.
This year, it's September 9th to 11th, and the organizers prevailed upon
duncanmac and myself to set up a spot on Livejournal for anyone interested in attending in either capacity to keep an eye out for news and get questions answered before showing up, if they're of a mind to do so.
That venue is
can_con_news . Hope to see you there from time to time between now and September.
