Sad News and Gotham
Nov. 15th, 2005 01:16 pmSome say that those two things go together like jam on toast. Today, I'm feeling a bit too much the truth of that. Thankfully, it's not because someone in the real world's actually died, but there is a sadness over a recent announcement regarding Gotham Central, a very good comic book published by DC Comics.
Greg Rucka details his logic in this Newsarama.com interview.
So, I have to admit I'm sad at this. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want to have a book like Gotham Central on my resume some day in the not so distant future; Everyone who knows me reasonably well would call me on it in about two seconds after the last word of such a lie left my tongue or keyboard or pen. So I won't commit to such a waste of energy.
I am pleased to see Greg end the book on his terms rather than the market's. I'm also pleased to see DC's committed to putting the rest of the run into trades for the long haul. If, as rumoured, there's a thematic follow-up featuring some or most of the Gotham Central cast and Greg or someone he trusts is at the writing helm, I plan to be there to support it.
I hope I won't be alone.
To Greg, Ed Brubaker, Michael Lark, Kano, Stefano Guardino, Steve Lieber and everyone else who had a hand in the book: Thank you. One and all.
