Yeah, useful as it often is, it's my only online connection to a lot of people, though. I hope I reminded them often enough about the other ways of contacting me...?

I barely use it -- read friends' posts, comment once in a blue moon. Don't post on FB at all, so it hasn't affected me. I didn't even realize it was such a connection until I saw people talking about it in other spaces. Mostly I see friends post a little thing about what they (or the pets or the kids) are doing, I read it, and that's it.

Well, the fact that the pings were slowed down is understandable. But what caused Zuckerberg's servers to slow down so much is still unclear.
