Secure Your Security Cameras!

So this is a continuing issue for lots of people. My household doesn't have such security arrangements, but there are people on our block and elsewhere across the wider Orléans/Ottawa area - households and businesses - who may want to take another look at theirs!

It's sure eye-opening to google some of the standard strings that are included on pages for manufacturers' streams. Then, interesting to try to guess where and at what one's looking!

I'm not interested in sharing anything more of my own life than I actively choose to share. I expect most people share that thinking, which each person chooses their own limits in such matters. So I don't plan to go looking for this kind of trouble.

There have been cases where people bought nanny-cams to watch their kids, only for people to hack them, turn on the speakers, and start saying totally inappropriate things to their kids.

There was also the recent conviction of a guy who worked for ADT, an American security company (dunno if they're also up there) who convinced people to install cameras in their bedroom then spied on women.

I have read of some of those nanny-cam incidents. Horrible.

Agreed.  Cases of people unable to bring joy into their own lives without bringing misery into others.

I once saw such an ad: "Video surveillance in the toilet of our restaurant is carried out for your safety." It was a joke, of course, but...

Perhaps a different joke than the restaurant's patrons should be comfortable with.
