A Rush to What, Exactly?

Covidvax is putting Canada's "fully vaccinated" percentage-of-population at 8.13 % as of this posting. The current pace is projected to have us reach 70 % fully vaccinated by 16 August. There are consequences to this.

I'm starting to feel like an opportunity for refitting Canada into a more humane, less cruel nation is closing off to us now. We haven't been moving fast enough in the correct directions, and now come the consequences. We're going to be pressured to abandon the things we've been doing correctly these past 15 months by the "Austeritarians". (Was that Paul Krugman's word for them?)

How do we forestall that? NDP, Canadian Labour Congress and its affiliates, Green Party, and other organizations have been pushing for more correct action in various ways.

Moving to turn off CBC Listen and switch to Ottawa City Council's YouTube channel while we mull this over...

You can see how they get there. We are now approaching vaccinating one percent of the population per day; we have already approached 70 percent of the population having received their first dose. If you do a linear extrapolation, you'd get to 70 percent of the population with two doses by sometime in late August, unless a lot of doses go to the remaining 30 percent who are unvaccinated - which is both likely and would reduce the amount available for second doses. So 70% in that timeframe looks a bit like a ceiling, unless we ramp up our administration still further or start using a lot of Johnson & Johnson.

The big problem here is the sharp disparity in vaccination is pretty strongly along political lines, which means future outbreaks will also be along political lines, as will be deaths due to disease.

Perhaps, as these outbreaks start and increase, people may come to their senses and realize that vaccinating > political dumbassery and will start getting shots.
