My husband and I just about threw a party when that sucker landed and was sending data. My hubby doesn't work for NASA through subcontractors anymore, but we still avidly follow their exploits.
We don't hold out much hope that that they will land people on Mars in our lifetime, but we have hopes that our daughters will see it:)
One thing I'm glad of is the CBC and Discovery Channel Canada coverage up here. They don't follow the "only if someone dies" rule of covering this stuff, thankfully.
As to Mars live-crew landings...only thing to do is keep making it clear that we want it to happen, I think.
