Religious Service in the Military Context
Sep. 7th, 2020 02:12 pmSpeaking of the common good...I'm looking at this:
https://cdrsalamander.blogspot.com/2020/09/usn-tone-deaf-on-religion-again.html
And this:
https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/military/story/2020-09-05/navy-cancels-catholic-services-at-area-bases-while-others-continue#null
And I too am wondering - I'm not Catholic or American or a career combat-sailor either and I'm not sure that matters simply because I see fellow humans being neglected - exactly who thought this was a good idea to begin with and why.

Date: 2020-09-08 12:53 pm (UTC)By any standard, this is a crazy move. It'll be interesting to see who prompted this, because it makes zero sense. A huge number of service members, active and retired, are Catholic and deserve this service, not to mention the major Freedom of Religion aspects, a Constitutional Freedom. When you're in basic training, you do not leave base: this could easily lead to an increase in suicides!
