[livejournal.com profile] daytonward posted this morning on some of NASA's bittersweet anniversaries of note this year in general and this month in particular. "Bittersweet" is certainly a good choice of word for it.

I do remember where I was when I first learned the news about Challenger and Columbia. Canada's been lucky enough thus far to avoid this sort of milestone, but we know that this luck cannot - will not - hold forever. As we develop our own assets for exploring and doing business up in the Deep Black Yonder in the years and decades to come, we're going to have more than one of our own. And I still think it's going to be worth it, for one reason only:

We can't stay in the cradle forever.

Back to drawing pages for now...and I'll talk a little more about that later. Promise.

The Columbia anniversary is always bitter sweet because both Drs McCool work at the UNLV Campus.

Mrs. Dr. McCool still has her minivan (covered with NASA stickers) and its "DR COOL" plates.

Good. I don't believe she should ever give those plates up if she can help it.
