Oooh, it was pretty fascinating. I definitely want to read their book now.
There's so many complexities about Eastern Europe that I think Westerners don't get (and that I only kindasorta get by dint of having spent some time there and through friends). And of course I remember living through 1989 and 1991 and the "end of history." Which obviously hasn't panned out, since as it turns out communist China and autocratic Russia are much better at capitalism than the Americans are.
