My wife says that if Betelgeuse goes *boom* that we'll have to stay indoors when it's up for a few weeks. But it's also relatively speaking pretty close.

That doesn't read nearly as horrific as I suspect this particular supernova 3.5 billion lightyears away would have been, had it happened at Betelgeuse's distance from Sol.
