Noting some of the cross-connections between the COVID-19 crisis, and the American situation re: workers' rights to sick leave and the American health care system...too many people believed in the value of the power to reduce people to death-by-poverty as a tool to maintain their version of order, and they've believed it for too long. This is how it can backfire.

Then again, I presume that insurance based health systems can just let people who can't pay die is they choose to?

It feels like this is the last judgment on the American healthcare system and labour protection. Ours too, given that the paltry paid sick days that Ford cut are nowhere near the three weeks you need to quarantine someone.

Nope. Not nearly enough to encourage voluntary self-quarantine as needed. And employers of all sizes, public and private sectors alike, are going to have to come to grips with this.
