Anniversaries, Clichés and Some Honest Talk Hiding Amongst Them

Tomorrow(by my present time zone), it'll be Christmas 2005. It marks two anniversaries: one pleasant, and the other not.

Some two decades and change ago, one of my cousins was born on this date.

Three years ago, in the very early morning of Christmas 2002, my father died.

In both instances, I was there either for the event or very shortly thereafter. I cannot shake the sense of karmic balance being enforced to this day. It haunts me, yes.

Nonetheless, I'll be getting up tomorrow to greet what friends and family may show their faces at my door. And for all the irritation we sometimes inflict on each other, as most humans will do with their kin, I have to admit that I'm glad on several levels that I can still meet them and be met in turn. I hope to be able to do this for a long time to come.

I'll likely drop in here on the LJ again tomorrow, possibly with something to say that makes sense or perhaps not. For all the chaos that will fill my home tomorrow, I will make the time.

I wish you all who read these words the best of the Season, by whatever names you choose to honour it.

Take care of yourselves and each other as best you can.

I was thinking of you as the holiday neared. It's difficult to believe it's been three years. I hope the day went as well as possible. Though I didn't know him, I suspect your father wouldn't want his passing to permanently mar Christmas for you.

The memory of that year's always going to be there, just at the edge of the day for me and the extended family old enough to know what happened and how and why. However, with my brother and sister bringing their spouses and children, it's ended up about as lively as I expected it would.
