CanConTV: Street Legal

I finally watched the first episode of the new Street Legal series. Looks okay. I admit to not being very clear on the mythology of the original series, but it looks like a good beginning to a new chapter. Six episodes to start.

Let's see how it goes.

Here's the thing. I was obsessed with that show as a kid. My mum and I watched it every Friday night and made microwave popcorn and had Kahlua (!!parenting!!) and it actually made me want to be a lawyer for a really long time. Fucking. Loved it. Maybe it wasn't as good as I remember but we had three channels so it was the best thing on.

I was walking with her and we passed an ad for the new one and I was like, "HOLYSHITOMG" but I've been too busy to check it out. Mum watched the first one and hated it. And thought Olivia (who is the only character back from the original series) was awful as an actor. She was pretty awful in the original series but IIRC she had a redemption arc.

I may still give it a shot out of nostalgia. Do they still use the same opening shot for the office? It's the Canadian-Soviet Friendship Club.

At the moment, I don't know about the opening shot in the titles. I'd expect changes there as much as anywhere else in the show, given the changeover of cast and premise, though.

I was a huge fan of the original series so watched the first episode out of morbid curiosity more than anything else. It left me rather indifferent so I'm not bothering with the rest of it. The only really good Canadian TV out there, IMO, is CTV's adaptation of the Giles Blunt Cardinal novels. Really superb.
