NAMES: Calgary, But Also...?

As someone with an interest in the history of street names, my thanks to rfmcdonald for putting this story from the Calgary Sprawl forward...

Quoting the author:

"Given these conflicts over roads and development, it’s hard to imagine the city changing its name, as the Stoneys and Piikani requested.

But what if we did? What if Calgary was still Calgary, but also Mohkinstsis (Blackfoot), and Wichispa Oyade (Nakoda), and Guts’ists’i (Tsuut’ina)—officially?"

I'm old enough to remember when Uhluru was called Ayer's Rock. Only good came out of changing it. Change the name! Change every name!

There's a couple of Indigenous spellings for what we call Ottawa that pre-dated European settlement and aren't all that different from what we're using now.

I can't think of any good reason not to change. Especially if you phased it in, using both names as equivalent at the start, to minimize the impact on business who'd already printed out letterhead and business cards.
