CBC News notes a campaign to enable access to FM radio stations via our "smartphones" without needing to use our data plans. My current primary cleverphone may be better able to serve my needs if this campaign succeeds. Maybe.

I used to listen to FM stations on my old dumb phones using this technology called radio that did not need a data plan.

I still do that on occasion. When I'm at a certain kind of day-job, I'd prefer to use a combo CD-player/AM-FM radio device for listening to over-the-air radio. The smaller the better, of course, with headphones rather than boombox-style speakers.

My options have been getting narrowed for me by assorted manufacturers over my objections of late.

BMI: "waist girth" is an upcoming flavor-of-the-month as another DMI indicator. Short version: visceral fat may be a better indicator for cardiovascular and metabolic issues.
