I've only got two things to say to my fellow Canadians, should the writ drop within the week as we're now apparently expecting it to do. When the day finally rolls around...

Vote!!!

So when it happens, show up.

I always vote.

And I vote NDP!

Everybody else should too! Especially if you value your health care system.

...because I believe that a minority government is likely to be more productive than any party's majority government.

Of course, that assumes that more than one of the opposition parties in such a situation has at least the good sense that Your Deity of Choice gave to hamsters or better. In this past year, we haven't had that yet as you've noted with earned vehemence. Not much chance of that given the New Conservatives and the Bloc, really.

Glad to read from you and Jamie on this. Looking forward to seeing others speak up on this one.

I am willing to let those who do not vote, not vote. It is one of the fundemental cornerstones of a true democracy.

When they run their mouths off though, that's when I get a little tense.

...I'm slowly becoming less convinced of the merits of this, Mike, as I get older. In fact, I find the idea puts me in a bit of a panic, considering the potential consequences for any democratic nation.

Sure, my side(whatever it may be in a given election) might win if the abstainers keep on abstaining...but they might lose, too.

I suggest that you might find yourself in the same boat.

Just a thought.
