A lot of this is going to be preaching to the choir time. A bit of a rant. Nowhere near the same league as Jian Ghomeshi or Earl McRae, but useful, I hope.

Warren Ellis posted a small response to the announcement of NASA's "we want to launch it sooner than later" Crew Excursion Vehicle's new name on his website the other day.

I won't say that he's wrong to be angry at the snail's pace of things in live-crew vehicle development for "return to the Moon and on to Mars from there" missions.

I'm just as impatient as he is, in fact. So you can imagine the thrill in the gut when I saw that item on the plans for a spaceport on Cape Breton the other week. In fact, you can remember it right along with me.

Back on point: Our own spaceport. On our own soil. Government-owned, privately-owned with space leased to other space agencies(including ours)...I don't care about the details much at the moment. One less thing to rely on other countries for. And some infrastructure to do some competing with the big boys and girls with.

Major League Thrills, I tell you. If you don't read the original article that I linked that "Ad Astra Per Novam Scotiam" post to and get a thrill yourself, I will dare accuse you of either being dead or having no soul.

Here's something else Warren pointed out: Russia and China are going "partners" on some major exploration of their own.

Forgive me if I don't want to leave the game to Washington, Moskva and Beijing, okay?
