Respect: The Fallen of August 2, Part II
Aug. 4th, 2006 03:28 pmA couple of hours after I wrote of Cpl. Reid of the Princess Patricias, I found out that the day had gone worse for them then previously reported.
Quoth the CBC Web News coverage: "Sgt. Vaughn Ingram, Cpl. Bryce Jeffrey Keller and Pte. Kevin Dallaire of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton were killed. The hometowns of the three dead soldiers have not been released."
One of the things that galls me is that -- in what seems to be some twisted form of message-sending on the subject of our abiding interest in equal opportunity in education for boys and girls alike in Afghanistan as at home -- the people who killed those three soldiers, it is reported by various news services, launched their attack from a schoolhouse.
From a schoolhouse.
I suspect I know what message the attackers hoped to send us by striking at the PPCLI in that way. Just as I know how much I care for that message itself.
Yeah, I know this reads like propaganda. Not sure if I should feel sorry for that or not yet. I'll get back to you on that one.
Hoping to get back to comics discussion soon...
