The squashing of the middle class...?

Something to be abhorred, surely. I grew up as the scion of such people myself, and I find the survival of that class as a group and a goal to be achieved...well, I'd prefer it to several of the alternatives.

One of the things I find as a regular visitor to Publicbroadcasting.ca is that there's a lot of links to a lot of blogs of interest. Take that of Bill Doskoch in the media section for example. He's a reporter who's worked everywhere from Regina to Phnom Penh to Toronto, print and video.

Today, he pointed up something of concern, particularly as regards the future of the middle class in humanity's larger cities. (See? I brought it back on point quickly enough, yes?)

Imagine if taking a pay cut meant that you had to leave the city you lived in your entire life. Not just the suburb, the whole city. You'd have to quit your job anyway.

Another thing to consider is that this might be a symptom of squeezing out the middle class alltogether. It would be just one more barrier between the rich and the poor. How do you start at the bottom and work your way up if the city you can afford to live in only has a bottom?
