So...I went to the Bytowne and finally saw The Way this afternoon.

It was well worth the ten dollars and two hours or so I spent on it. Both as a movie and as low-budget therapy session.

I kept telling myself after hearing the interview of Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez on Q a year or so back that I wanted to see this movie for Sheen's performance and the cultural angle on the Camino de Santiago. I even remember the discussion with Jim Brown - filling in that day for regular host Jian Ghomeshi - about the stereotype-violating "angry Canadian woman" character at one point in the interview.

But, really, like the movie and the Camino itself...my reasons started out one way and ended up being somewhere else by the end of it. The movie let me vent a little more of the pain from losing Dad, really. Dad...and others as well. But still mostly Dad.

Yeah, ten years afterward and I'm still doing this dance.

So...if you're going to see this? Don't expect to escape whatever pain in the soul or heart that you're coping with. You're going to bring it with you to this movie. Be prepared for that.

It might not be a bad thing.
