Moving on...

Strange Maps launches its first posting from its new home with some thoughts on Swiss counter-proposals in the face of a suggestion from Moammar Gadhafi that the Helvetian Confederacy be disbanded. Amusing thought.

The Pen and Paper workshop where themoo37, ms_danson, myself and numerous others have been honing our writing skills these many moons is soon to be in need of a new home. The NiHao Tea House at Gloucester Centre Mall, which has been hosting us for a couple of years now, is due to shut down due to lack of clientele effective this September 1st. We're not hurting for potential successor venues, 'tis true, but I like this place. I like it a lot. It's convenient to job-hunting and shopping resources for me, transit as well, and it's a calm place when I need it to be. I'll miss it when it's gone.

In a good news vein, here's something re: extra-solar planets and the Kepler probe. Thanks to james_nicoll for the link! Looking forward to seeing how this plays out in the months to come.

Extra solar planets. I am so disappointed in the US space program right now, don't even get me started. So much technology and real world applications comes out of space exploration, and the powers that be in Washington don't care.

I really had hoped to see the landing on Mars in my lifetime. Unless something drastic happens in the next few years, I'm afraid I won't live to see it.

Seems like a lot of people fighting on the "help it happen sooner" and "keep it from EVER happening" sides, so we'll have to just keep plugging for our side as best we can.
