dewline: Exclamation: "OUCH!" (pain)

Last night was another one of Those Nights. The ones with the coughing jags guaranteed to get you sitting up in your room instead of lying in bed every two hours or so. Trying to get the crap out of the bottom of the lungs that just isn't going anywhere. Herbal teas, vitamin C-heavy drinks, and so on...and while you're not doubled over in complete agony, it's not really helping enough to suit you just yet.

I got a recipe from [livejournal.com profile] bunsen_h for ginger beer(although I didn't see any suggestion of alcohol in the recipe) which might be of use, once I'm well enough to try cooking up the mixture in case of future need. Anyone know of a supplier of sodium benzoate-free soda water in Ottawa?

Good thing to listen to this morning: White Coat, Black Art with Dr. Brian Goldman on CBC Radio. Today's installment dealt with the conflict between psychiatric and physical emergency issues and how they might be better addressed to the benefit of those with both kinds of problems. There should be a podcast available shortly if it isn't already up at http://cbc.ca/podcasting/

More as it comes to me...

Joel's got a recipe for ginger beer? Send it over!

I've also been searching for a recipe for root beer.

Got it and anxious to try. I've been sipping the PC variety, which is the best I've tasted, but can't wait to try this. So much better than ginger ale, too.

Thanks, Dan. I dunno if it's swine flu, one of the hundreds of garden variety flus or something else, but the sooner I'm done with it the better.

Oh yeah, that's where I was a month or so back. It was probably swine flu in my case. It took forever to even get well enough to go back to work, then they spent the next weekend burning off the bush in preparation for bushfire season, then the week after that we had those massive dust storms. I was ready to take up smoking just to justify all the pain.

So yeah, I fully sympathise.

I didn't know about the other stuff that you just recounted re: your neck of the Australian coastlines. So now I've even more reason to wince, from sympathetic as much as actual, first-hand pain.
