Slobodan Milosevic is dead.

I'm not saying I'll miss him. At all. But it would've been quite useful to humankind to see him survive at least long enough to run out the appeals process on his trial and see all the yet-untold truths finally told before we saw the back of him once and for all. Even if we had to put up with his bluster and nonsense throughout the whole process.

Not saying that it would have been nice. It wouldn't.

But it would have been damned useful to us all.

And he deserved a full and proper come-uppance before he died. Now, he may never get it, save for there actually being an afterlife or a Day of Reckoning and Judgement. Being an agnostic -- unsure of almost everything, save that I will likely remain unsure to my own death -- I have no certainty on that score.

But look at it this way ... we're that much closer to literally pissing on his grave.

True enough...

...but we would have had that eventually in any case.

Finishing the trial and appeals process properly stood a fair chance of getting more, and more useful, information on all the crap that went down out in the open for all the world to see, and hopefully learn lessons that stuck.

Now...?

There's still two culprits out there who can be tried and can provide that information - just got to catch the bastards.

Speaking of the Other Culprits...

...I note that the efforts to capture them have been meeting with ongoing obfuscation and interference from Belgrade for several small Ages now. Much to the annoyance of that judge from Spain -- what is her name again? -- and many others at the UN and elsewhere. Including me. Mladic and Karadzic, right?

Yeah. I still want to see them in the dock. Convicted or exonerated, I want to see them held to account for their part in the mess.

I'd have liked to have seen him sent down for what happened - but the world's not going to be a sadder place for his passing.
