I've been seeing messages of this sort in these machines from Orleans to Centretown. A little chilling in one sense, and yet it's a good excuse to actually go to where other people are.
The Citizen released an article a while ago saying they were no longer cost-effective, outside of a few boxes in the core, hence why they're taking them out of service.
When Laura and I took the train into London (Ontario) a few weeks back, we passed what must have been the back of the London Free Press building. There were dozens of newspaper boxes sitting there, presumably pulled from service. So this may be spreading.
And I noticed they corrected themselves on that one. Apparently, that one photo was the result of a city-wide ban of such things. crisper would be one of the regulars here who might better remember the details and history of that instance.
