I understand that today's something of a mixed-blessing anniversary for your country. I just wanted to pay my respects to that, knowing a little better now of the nature of that event with the First Fleet's landing at Sydney Cove.

I like being able to celebrate Australia Day as a day when I'm thankful I live here now. I guess by mixed-blessing you're refering to the Invasion Day brouhaha.

As an immigrant, I have a hard time feeling responsible for colonial misdeeds. Every country in the world has this kind of a history if you go back far enough.

Too true on that history angle, I suspect. Certainly, Canada has its own issues with respect to the First Nations and the Inuit to keep dealing with.
