Canada: Census 2026

I filled out the questionnaire for this year's Canadian census.

I am somewhat disappointed that my household did not get the long-form edition this time.

My immediate knee-jerk or gut reaction was to say "Hey, I'll trade ya!" although that's certainly not my more considered response.

The long-form edition did gather some important information and if the government takes it to heart and actually acts usefully on it, we'll all benefit, regardless of which version of the census we got.

If I'd been designing the questionnaire myself, I would have included questions about how we get around. Things like: How many cars do you have? Do you use public transit? And so on. Surely that's a critical element to consider when planning and improving government services.

I got it for the first time & it was the short one. Glad to know the longer one exists, but I was kind of amused that the only questions were like:
What is your name?
Are you trans?
Do you speak French?

The specific example-questions you propose are good ones, in my opinion. Something to add into the long form for 2031.
