Why should you apologize? There's no need for that. And good potential employers will understand that.

Most of the ones I'd like to work with/for seem to be pressured by either their landlords, nearby businesses and/or their landlords to RTO everyone possible at the moment. So we've got a problem. Add in the enshittification of local public transit over the last couple of decades, and some other factors...
