I have a mildly amusing story about yesterday that led to my choice.

I walked from home down the hill to Place d'Orléans to take care of some errands and went back home again the same way. The trip on foot is usually about 30-45 minutes each way, depending on the route I take. When I started out, not all of the sidewalks in my neighbourhood had yet been cleared. By the time I turned onto Charlemagne, it was obvious that the sidewalk-ploughing drivers were in fact on the job. I stopped off at a local church briefly to catch my breath - leaving the minister there somewhat puzzled, I'm sure, over my willingness to keep moving onward - and as I descended Prestone to St. Joseph Boulevard, it happened.

I had a minute or three's warning, seeing the sidewalk snowplough machine driving up the street/hill towards me, to jump up onto the windrow and out of the way. No problems there.

Afterwards, as I climbed back down to the sidewalk, now more or less safely cleared, I found myself amused. I don't believe in organized religion, although I do think there's a divine force in the Universe - or Multiverse, seeing as we have Michio Kaku and the like debating this point - and to see my prayers, for want of a better word, answered so bluntly with such timing...well, I laughed. I said "Thank you" and I laughed at the comic timing of it, and I kept walking.

So...snowplough drivers who work the sidewalk-clearing detail. Day Three's Thing That Makes Me Smile.

Day Four...will be forthcoming.
