Winter Bomb Cyclone 2022
Dec. 23rd, 2022 08:12 amFrom the Environment Canada winter storm warning:
6:58 AM EST Friday 23 December 2022
Winter storm warning in effect for:
Ottawa North - Kanata - Orléans
Ottawa South - Richmond - Metcalfe
Major winter storm continues through Saturday.
Hazards:
Additional snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm by Saturday morning.
Wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h resulting in blowing snow which will reduce visibility to near zero at times.
Wind chill values near minus 20.
Flash freeze producing icy and slippery surfaces.
Timing:
Snow mixed with freezing rain and ice pellets will transition to rain early this morning.
Snow and local blowing snow developing this afternoon and continuing into Saturday.
Flash freeze possible this afternoon.
Very cold wind chill values will develop this afternoon and persist into the weekend.
Discussion:
After rising this morning, temperatures are expected to plummet this afternoon leading to a potential flash freeze. Rapidly falling temperatures will be accompanied by snow and strong winds which will result in blowing snow.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
Apologies to the Crown in right of Canada for this. I believe the safety of the general public may be served by the IP rights violation at this writing.
