dewlineAfter last night's rant - can I call it a rant? - I needed some time to think about a few other things.
One is the ongoing concern over the doings on Parliament Hill. I'm thinking that our current Prime Minister may be about to repeat a stunt of Brian Mulroney's from 15 years or so ago. Mulroney did his round of Senate-stacking to get the GST into Canadian law. Harper's been undoing the passage of that law by about a percentage point a year since taking office, and he's been on record for years before his entry into the Commons as wanting to see how our senators get their jobs changed.
Which makes things both more and less clear regarding the announced plan to appoint eighteen new senators before Christmas. Could he simply be making the case for changing the rules by sacrificing his own reputation? Consciously?
Most importantly, if I'm right in this bit of motivation guesswork, is it the right deed at the right moment?
Second, I'm making progress on building an inventory of columns for a new column, Maple Leaf Trek. I've hinted at this column, a project devoted to the Canadian SF fandom, as being in the works in a couple of places over the last month or three, and I hope to confirm the rest of the details next month. Such as exactly "where's the URL?"
Item three: I still want an end to the transit fuss I spoke of last posting. For the reasons I stated then.
