On the expected departure of the Canadian Penny

When CBC Radio asked the public at large about that pending event as a prelude to today's edition of Cross-Country Checkup, I had this to say:

Yes. I'll miss the Canadian penny if it stays gone after this. For all the talk about how we have to retrain ourselves to be a cash-less society, I'm not convinced of that yet. And besides, physical currency - in addition to its legal aspects - is an art medium as well.

My right knee is Unhappy today. I got to the ByMUG meeting despite that, and I'm wondering if that wasn't a mistake.

This is a part of St. Joseph Boulevard I visited semi-regularly for a few years. Actually, as the Place d'Orléans Mall parking lot backs onto it, I still visit the area a lot. My reasons have changed, though.Queenswood Meats, for example, was a favourite for stocking the family freezer. The owners retired, and the building first became a home for outfitting paramilitary sports enthusiasts...and right now it's a real estate dealer's office.As for Work Place Ottawa, that was a place I visited for job search support - internet and search methodology counselling and workshops - that has also since shut down.I miss the people I dealt with in both places.
