Isn't there a type of ape that views smiling as aggression? I think I'm rapidly becoming that.

I am developing one of those habits of vicious smiling when I hear things meant to comfort me that conflict with reality as you and I are coming to understand it. It makes some of my relatives Uncomfortable.
