Apparently, the invasion is trying to steal the Latin letter "Z" for itself. Their way of building a "swastika"-style brand.

It's a Latinate Z too, not a Russian one which looks more like a 3.

There's a view that it might be Z for 'zapad'- west.

Some of the Russian vehicles in another area had big white O's on them instead. I don't recall where they were or what direction they were heading in (if it was even said).
